CLINICAL POSTDOC

Mette Falkenberg Krantz, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services, Capital Region of Denmark Psychiatric Services, has been awarded a postdoc research grant from Lundbeck Foundation worth DKK 2,500,000 kr.

Her project investigates social risk factors for the development of psychiatric disorders in children of parents with serious psychiatric disorders.

It is well-known that these children are at least ten times more likely to develop schizophrenia or bipolar disorder than other children their age. Heredity is the major causal factor, and yet there are strong indications that social risk factors can significantly increase this hereditary predisposition.

Mette Falkenberg Krantz seeks to shed more light on this correlation by studying more than 500 children of mentally ill parents.
